Salahuddin’s wife returns home
Hasina Ahmed, wife of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed who is facing a criminal charge in India for trespassing, has returned Bangladesh to collect necessary documents and papers relating to her husband’s disappearance to produce those before Meghalaya court, BNP insiders say.
BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin’s younger brother Giasuddin Ahmed, who also returned with Hasina from Shillong on Friday night, however, told The Daily Star this evening that his sister-in-law had to return home due to some family affairs.
“Examinations of Salahuddin’s daughter and son will begin soon. She has returned to look after them.”
He also said Hasina is likely to visit India again to meet her husband before Eid-ul-Fitr. In absence of her wife, Salahuddin’s nephews Safwan and Hena ul Islam are taking care of him, Giasuddin also said.
Talking to reporters this morning, Hasina sought blessings from country’s people so that her husband can return home soon.
She also said Salahuddin’s fate now depends on the verdict of Meghalaya court.
After getting bail from the court, Salahuddin has been staying in a rented house in Shillong and his condition is gradually improving, according to the sources.
Earlier on June 5, a lower court in the Indian state of Meghalaya granted Salahuddin bail in the trespassing case on condition that he would have to stay in Shillong and be present before the court once a week.
The BNP leader was picked up from a house in the city's Uttara on March 10 by unidentified men who allegedly introduced themselves as detectives.
After remaining missing for around two months, Salahuddin was found in Shillong, the capital of north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya, on May 11. He was arrested for entering into India without any valid documents.
Hasina Ahmed went to India on May 17 to visit her husband.
