BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, who was discharged from hospital today, will be produced at a Shillong court tomorrow for intrusion into India.

He was released from North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (Neigrihms) around 4:30pm local time, acting superintendent of the institute Vaskar Borgohain said.

Salahuddin was in police custody since his arrest in Shillong after going missing in Bangladesh for two months following what his family claimed detention by law enforcers.

Indian police charged the BNP joint secretary general with intrusion, but waited out to produce him at court over concern regarding his physical and mental health.

After release today, Shillong police took him under custody, East Khasi Hills district Superintendent M Kharkrang said. "Necessary procedures have been completed and he will be produced at court tomorrow."

He said Salahuddin was discharged after his health condition was declared okay by the authorities at the hospital, located in Mawdiangdiang - about 12 kilometres from Shillong.

According to the police, Ahmed is due to be produced in court tomorrow before noon even as the court had directed the police to file a report on his arrest this Friday.

Ahmed, who was arrested on May 12 for entering the country without valid documents, had last week moved court seeking bail to get treatment in a hospital in Singapore.

Since arrest, he was admitted at the high security ward of the Shillong Civil Hospital before moved to intensive care unit (ICU) of the NEIGRIHMS last week.
