Graft case: SC scraps Mamun’s acquittal
The Supreme Court today scrapped the High Court judgement that had acquitted businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun in a corruption case.
On October 27, 2008, the Special Judge’s Court had sentenced Mamun to 10 years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 10 lakh for accumulating property worth Tk 101.73 crore beyond his known source of income.
In response to an appeal, the HC on July 30, 2012 acquitted Mamun from the corruption charges.
Today, the Appellate Division cancelled the HC verdict and ordered it to hold further hearing on Mamun’s appeal, Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
