Speaker gets AL letter on Latif’s termination
The Jatiya Sangsad speaker has received a letter from Awami League informing her about the termination of Abdul Latif Siddique from the ruling party.
The ruling AL terminated his membership from the party on October 24 over his demeaning comments on hajj, Tablighi Jamaat and prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy in a New York programme in September 28.
“I received the letter on July 5 and I am taking measures in accordance with the law,” Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury told reporters this afternoon.
The letter was signed by AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, party sources said.
Following the remarks, Siddique was sacked from the cabinet, his position as telecommunications and information technology minister, on October 12. Later his presidium and primary membership in his party the ruling Awami League was annulled.
