Stop GCC polls, BNP mayoral runner demands
BNP mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker has brought allegations of massive irregularities including casting of false votes and urged the returning officer to stop the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls.
"False votes were given after driving out of my polling agents from over hundred centres. They were manhandled by the ruling party men. Due to these, I am urging the Election Commission to stop the voting," Sarker made the plea.
The BNP nominated mayoral candidate met Gazipur Returning Officer Raquib Uddin Mondal at his office and placed the demand after bringing these allegations this noon.
Responding to a query over boycotting the election, Sarker said there is no question of boycotting the election.
"I will fight the polls until the last moment only to project the irregularities committed during the election," he said.
Earlier in the day, Sarker at a press briefing at BNP's Gazipur district unit office around 1:0045pm brought the similar allegations and demanded stopping of the voting.
During the media briefing, Sarker blasted the members of different law enforcement agencies for their partisan role and said his party's leaders, activists and supporters were harassed in many ways and many of them were detained deliberately.
