BNP expels rebel mayor candidate in Sylhet city polls
BNP has expelled the party's Sylhet city unit General Secretary Badruzzaman Selim for violating the party's discipline and acting against its interest, said a press release from the party.
Badruzzaman Selim is going to contest in the Sylhet City Corporation elections as an independent candidate after being denied of the party's nomination.
BNP nominated Ariful Haque Chowdhury, incumbent mayor of the city and also a member of the party's national executive committee, to contest in the elections scheduled for July 30.
The last date of withdrawal of nomination papers was on Monday.
BNP today issued a press release signed by its Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu stating that Selim has been expelled from all posts of the party including primary membership.
BNP also expelled Mymensingh (North) district’s Tarakanda upazila unit member Masud Rana Khan on the same ground, the press release read.
Leaders and activists of the party have been requested not to contact or maintain any communication with them, it added.
