Tarique being barred from coming home: Fakhrul
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that the government is creating obstruction on the way to returning home of the party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.
“Government wants to keep Tarique Rahman aside from politics. It is creating barricades by lodging false cases and spreading propaganda against him," Fakhul said.
He was addressing a programme organised by Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal at the BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarter in Dhaka.
Criticising one-eleven political changeover during the last caretaker government's regime, Fakhrul said the then government took charge of the country illegally and tortured Tarique Rahman after arresting him unlawfully.
A conspiracy was on at that time to make a vacuum in the countries politics arena, Fakhrul said.
“Tarique is now receiving treatment in London. We hope he will return home to take leadership of the party to restoring democracy in the country,” he added.
Tarique was arrested on March 7, 2007 and he was released on bail on September 3, 2008.
Since then he has been living in London with his family members.
