2 AL leaders shot dead in Bandarban, Satkhira

Unidentified criminals have gunned down two top local leaders of Awami League in Bandarban and Satkhira. 

The victims are: Mong Mong Thoi Marma, 50, president of Taracha union unit AL in Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban, and Nazrul Islam, 63, vice president of Agardari union unit AL in Sadar upazila of Satkhira, our local correspondents report quoting police.

Bandarban

Body of Mong Mong Thoi Marma was recovered in Shamuk Jhiri area on Rowangchhari-Bandarban road after locals informed about it to a local chairman around 12:45pm, Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rowangchhari Police Station, told our Bandarban correspondent.

Thoi Marma was travelling to the city riding a bike from a preparation meeting of the party, the police official said.

Law enforcers recoverd the bike wich also has bullet marks on it, the OC added.

Satkhira

The incident took place at Hanzapara on Satkhira-Boikali road around 11:00am, Rabiul Islam, younger brother of Nazrul Islam, told our Satkhira correspondent. 

The spot is about a half kilometre away from his brother's residence, Rabiul said. 

In 2013, unidentified criminals shot dead his elder brother Sirajul Islam and Sirajul's son, Kobirul Islam, he said.

Police have recovered the body, said Md Iltut Mish, additional superintendent of police.
