'Myanmar role towards ethnic minorities not acceptable'

Visiting UK Prime Minister's trade envoy Rushnara Ali MP today said the role of the Myanmar Government towards its ethnic minorities is not acceptable.

She pointed out the humanitarian crisis caused by Myanmar armed forces by inflicting violence against Rohingya minority in Rakhine State.

The Bangladesh-origin British MP also mentioned that Bangladesh is gaining moral high ground by giving room to the Rohingya minorities and by giving access to the NGOs in Bangladesh.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam had a meeting with a British trade delegation led by Rushnara Ali at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon.

British High Commissioner Alison Blake also accompanied the delegation during the meeting, according to the foreign ministry in the capital.

While referring to the holding of Strategic Dialogue in March and visit of Lord Ahmad of Wimboldon, the UK FCO Minister this year, State Minister Shahriar Alam mentioned that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK has reached to strength.

The British MP assured that the aid and investments from the UK will certainly increase in this backdrop.

She and her delegation also expressed keen interest to invest in the development of railway sector including strong railway infrastructure.

She also offered to avail lucrative export credits from the British companies to implement the upcoming mega projects.
