Unite again as during Liberation War: Ashraf
Mentioning that Awami League is against any national disunity, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam today said their party wants the whole nation to get united again as during the Liberation War.
“We don’t want to see any division in the country any more. There had been many violence and conflicts in the past…enough is enough…let’s get united as we were during the Liberation War,” he said.
Ashraf, also the AL general secretary, said this while addressing a discussion organised by AL Dhaka city unit at the Institute of Engineers in the city, marking the 40th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In another discussion earlier in the day, Ashraf hoped that one day all, including Awami League and BNP, will pay tributes to Bangabandhu altogether.
“In India, Pakistan and the USA, there is no debate about Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and George Washington. The day will come when general secretaries of Awami League, BNP, Communist Party, prime minister and the opposition leader will pay tributes together to Bangabandhu,” he said.
Ashraf was speaking at a discussion on the Mourning Day at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital.
The minister said the Father of the Nation belongs to all political parties, organisations and citizens. “This is why this year we tried to observe the Mourning Day with the participation of all,” he said.
“We’ve noticed that many organisations observed Mourning Day this year who had never observed the day earlier and many people also joined Mourning Day programmes this year,” said the minister, adding, “We’ve disgraced ourselves by dividing Bangabandhu. He is indisputable.”
