Japan announces $10m emergency aid for Rohingyas
Japan government has decided to extend emergency grant aid of USD 10 million for displaced Rohingyas and host communities in Bangladesh.
The decision to provide the grant for humanitarian assistance was made on March 9, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka today.
Under the grant, Japan will provide USD 5 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), USD 4.3 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and USD 0.7 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The grant is expected to support food distribution to approximately 345,000 people, rehabilitation of tlshelters of approximately 14,000 people, and provision of medical and sanitation equipment to nine hospitals and three health facilities, the release said.
Along with this assistance, Japan has contributed USD 155 million in humanitarian assistance to Cox's Bazar since August 2017.
