A debate on the 'UN report over the Rohingya crisis' has been scheduled for Thursday, December 20 in the Main Chamber of House of Commons of UK.

The debate has been nominated by the Backbench Business Committee after a representation from Rushanara Ali MP and Anne Main MP, according to House of Commons Library.

Six UK Parliament members have signed to support the motion as the sponsors and 18 others lawmakers have supported it.

According to the summary brief of the House of Commons Library, the House notes that the UN's Independent International fact-finding mission on Myanmar alleges that crime against humanity and war crimes have been committed in the Kachin and Shan states of northern Myanmar.

It condemned the alleged human rights abuses by the Burmese military in northern Myanmar, which include torture, extrajudicial killings, rape, forced labour, forced location, use of civilians as human shields, arbitrary arrests, arson and artillery and aerial bombing of civilian targets.

It urged the government actively to pursue accountability for crimes against humanity and war crimes in northern Burma, as well as genocide against the Rohingya people, through the international justice mechanism.

It called for unhindered and unrestricted access for international humanitarian aid organisations and human rights monitors to all parts of northern Myanmar; and further called for increased humanitarian aid to the internally displaced people in northern Myanmar and for funding to go direct to local civil society and aid organisations operating on the borders of Myanmar.

The UK public elects 650 members of parliament to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons.

MPs consider and propose new laws, and can scrutinise government policies by asking ministers questions about current issues either in the Commons Chamber or in Committees.
