‘No Rohingya issue in CPC resolution’
Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has not adopted any resolution on Rohingya issue in its annual conference being held in Dhaka.
To pass a resolution as per the rules of CPA, a notice will have to be submitted at least 60 days before beginning of the conference, its outgoing Chairperson Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said today.
As the Rohingya issue is a very recent matter, it was not possible to submit a notice in this regard, said Chaudhury, also the speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.
Addressing the formal inaugural session of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) on November 5, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali urged the CPA members to take a united stand against all discriminatory policies and activities that run counter to human rights.
The CPA members also said the association should adopt a resolution supporting Bangladesh's stance and put pressure on Myanmar to take back Rohingyas and ensure their safe rehabilitation.
