SC defers hearing on Destiny Rafiqul's bail petitions till Thursday
The Supreme Court today deferred the hearing of two bail petitions filed by Destiny Group Managing Director Md Rafiqul Amin in two money laundering cases involving Tk 4,200 crore till Thursday.
A four-member bench of Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain deferred the hearing as Rafiqul's lawyer Sayeed Ahmed Raza sought time saying that they are yet to receive the full text of the HC orders.
On August 20, the HC rejected the bail petitions of Rafiqul as he did not pay any money to the government in line with the Appellate Division order, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star earlier.
Then, Rafiqul submitted two petitions with Appellate Division of the SC challenging the HC's rejection order. In the petitions, he sought bail from the apex court in the cases.
On November 13, 2016, Rafiqul was granted bail by the Appellate Division on condition that he must pay the government Tk 2,800 crore in six weeks by selling 35 lakh mature trees planted under the company's tree plantation project.
