Unstoppable Red Bus fights the Dhaka flood
Today's rain created a virtual seaside resort out of Dhaka city minus all the sun and fun. Less than couple hours of rain and all the roads were locked down due to traffic not having any place to get through. Cars were stuck due to getting water inside that either conked out the engines or created shorts in the complex electronics of modern cars. But this was no issue for the university's famed red buses. The height, girth and chanting made sure it got through all obstacles of water, rain and oncoming traffic.
Most of the traffic problems arose because people tried to take shortcuts that simply were not available. Some drivers wanted to take the quick exit by going against the wrong lane. Even a DCC wrecker truck went up with its considerable bulk and got stuck against oncoming traffic. Others drove too fast over water flooding the engines and causing the vehicles to stall. Check out our 7 tips on driving in flood waters without completely dying.
Today, there were no shortcuts. Severe lack of proper drainage combined with impatience made sure the entire city waded through muddy sewer waters.
