UIU organises "THE EXCELIST"- 1st National Excel Competition
UIU Finance Forum, a wing of the UIU Career Counseling Center has successfully organised "THE EXCELIST"- 1st National Excel Competition. The competition was held on May 30 (1st round), June 2 (2nd round) and June 3 (Final round), 2016. The prize giving ceremony was held at United International University (UIU). Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, VC, UIU presided over the ceremonies while Matiur Rahman, Chairman & Managing Director, Uttara Group, Arif Khan, CEO & Managing Director, IDLC Finance Limited and Engr. Tanvirul Haque Probal, Managing Director, Building for Future Limited & Ex-President, REHAB were present as the guests of honour. Md. Hussainul Islam Sajib, Principal Officer, Treasury & FIs Division of Lanka Bangla Finance Limited was the lead trainer of the two days training.
Sohana Haider (UIU) became the champion, Ahnaf Tahmid (IBA-DU) became the 1st runner-up and Rajmi Hesham Abir (NSU) became the 2nd runner-up. The Daily Star was the strategic partner of this event.
Apex Group Chairman speaks at DIU
Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairman, Apex Group, delivered the 2nd lecture of the Daffodil International University Industry Academia Lecture Series on "Some Reflections on Entrepreneurship" today on June 11, 2016 at DIU Auditorium. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU delivered the welcome address in the programme. The programme was also addressed by Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahabub-Ul-Islam, VC, DIU, Md. Abu Taher, Director, Innovation and Incubation Center (IIC). Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director (Student Affairs) conducted the event.
Syed Manzur Elahi said only hard work, honesty, integrity and humility can bring success to an entrepreneur. He urged the students to be self-esteemed and dream to be an entrepreneur and come forward to implement that dream. He also stressed on to maintain the quality at any cost and uphold the good will which is very important for become an entrepreneur.
The lectures of these 12 successful entrepreneurs will be compiled and published as a book which will act as a reference book for the students of Business Administration, Economics and Entrepreneurship Development department.
AABRACU hosts Alumni Iftar
Alumni Association of BRAC University (BRACU) held its annual iftaar mahfil at BRACU campus.
Md. Tajdin Hassan, President of AABRACU, shared a glimpse of activities the new committee has implemented over the last one year and also shared his future plan to build a well-connected Alumni Committee.
As a part of its community agenda, the association has launched its new website which is believed to be one of the best alumni websites of the country. Prof. Rahim B Talukdar, BBS Advisor, Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director, OCSAR & Student Affairs and Md. Tajdin Hassan, AABRACU President inaugurated the website. This website will bridge between job seekers and employers of this network as well as disseminate alumni information to keep the alumni members up-to-date. This initiative is a part of the agenda of this executive committee formed a year ago, which will bring a dynamic scenario in alumni networking and boost the enthusiasm of the community.
Alumni association of BRACU currently serves around four thousand alumni and this website will be used to manage the web presence and online communications of its alumni members both in the country and abroad. The keynote speaker of the event was Shiblee Shakik Ahmed, Head of Marketing MMDS, South East Asia New Markets, Microsoft Corporation. Shiblee is also an MBA graduate from BRACU. He discussed the importance of networking and illustrated how an alumni association can build a strong network.
Seminar and online video conference at SEU
Department of Textile Engineering at Southeast University (SEU) organised a seminar titled "Bamboo Fibre: Extraction and its Distinctive Properties" through online video conference recently at the Conference Hall of the campus. VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain was present at the programme as chief guest, while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury remained as special guest. Professor Emeritus of SEU, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali attended the programme as guest of honour. Visiting Fellow of Deakin University, Australia, Dr. Engr. Tarannum Afrin presented the keynote paper through video conferencing.
Among others, Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust Wing Commander AHM Mostafa Morshed (Retd.), faculty members and students of the department were present at the seminar.
Speakers at the seminar took part in a discussion with Dr. Tarannum Afrin on different merits of bamboo fibre through the video conferencing. She presented her topic through PowerPoint presentation from Australia and answered different questions.
Branding seminar at WUB
Centre for Brand Research (CBR), Department of Business Administration, World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organised a seminar on 'Brand Lafarge Surma Cement & Its Application" in association with Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd. on June 6, 2016 at the auditorium of WUB Main Campus. Sudipta Roy, Manager, Technical Application of Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd. was present as the resource person and keynote speaker of the seminar.
Pro-VC, Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam graced the occasion as chief guest while Prof. A.K.M. Ziaul Islam, Controller of Examinations, Prof. A.F.M Abdur Rauf, Dean, Faculty of Science & Engineering and A K Ziauddin Ahmed, Head, Department of Business Administration were present as special guests.

AIUB signs MoU with University of Alcalá of Spain
As a part of the participation at the IAUP Semi-Annual Meeting 2016, American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the host university, the University of Alcalá (UAH), on the May 21, 2016 in Madrid, Spain.
The collaboration covers a multitude of academic activities to be pursued by the universities, ranging from teaching to research to exchange programmes, all of which enables and encourages cultural diversity, personal and professional development of both its faculty members and students. The VC of AIUB, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, and the President of UAH, Juan Fernando Galván Reula signed the MoU on behalf of the respective universities.
The ceremony concluded with the promise of both institutions working proactively to realise the full potential of the collaboration and moving forward with the implementation of it soon.
