DIU student attends UNLEASH Innovation Lab 2018 in Singapore

Wahid Zaman, a student of Department of Software Engineering of Daffodil International University (DIU) attended the UNLEASH Singapore 2018 held at National University of Singapore from May 30 to June 10, 2018. This year UNLEASH Innovation Lab (an immersive 10-day programme) brought together 1,000 SDG talents from 130 countries to create solutions to the Sustainable Development Goals and Zaman is one of them. He achieved a full-funded scholarship that included round-trip airfare, meal, and accommodation for the programme.

He focused on Social Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education with his team and worked on the idea "Curriculum development and student mobility across Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to give access quality education and equity to set a minimum global standard of the students coming from different backgrounds". They presented their project before the guests including the President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, after completion of their innovation process lab in NUS.

 

IUB ranks top among Asian universities in the URC 2018

"Team Attendant", the team from Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) secured first position in whole Asia in the University Rover Challenge (URC) 2018 held at Utah, USA.

The University Rover Challenge (URC) is the world's premier robotics competition for university students organised by the Mars Society, sponsored by Protocase and Microsoft, held annually in the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in southern Utah in the United States. URC challenges student teams to design and build the next generation of Mars rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet.

Last year Team Attendant placed 10th worldwide and second in Asia in URC 2017 while this year the team fought back strongly to secure 6th position globally and first in Asia after competing with 36 teams from universities all around the world such as Cornell University, Stanford University, and University of Michigan from USA; University of Toronto, Canada; Monash University, Australia; and IIT Madras and IIT Bombay from India. Other Bangladeshi participating universities were AIUB, BRAC, BUET, CUET, Daffodil International University, IUT, KUET, AUST, Leading University Sylhet, North South University, and Rajshahi University.

PCz Rover Team from the Czestochowa University of Technology became first while MRDT from Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA secured second and Kielce University of Technology's Team IMPULS clinched third position in this global competition.

NSU Syndicate meeting held

The 61st meeting of the North South University (NSU) Syndicate Committee was held on June 24, 2018 at the University Syndicate Hall. Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, NSU chaired the meeting while representatives from Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), and members of the Board of Trustees discussed on different agendas. Multiple academic decisions were formulated in the meeting. The Pro-VC (Designate) Prof. Gias U. Ahsan, Treasurer Prof. Gour Gabinda Goswami, and Registrar A. H. Lutful Hassan were present at the meeting.
