IUB celebrates Chaitra Sangkranti 1424
To bid farewell to 1424 and welcome the Bangla New Year 1425, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated "Chaitra Sangkranti 1424" on April 12, 2018 through cultural events at its own campus in Bashudhara, Dhaka. The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS), IUB arranged the programme that included typical Bangla food kiosks, folk music, and folk dance.
While inaugurating "Chaitra Sangkranti 1424", Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB requested all concerned to organise such events regularly so the students could be familiar with essential and rich Bangla and its traditions. In his remarks, Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, SLASS briefed about the cultural history of celebrating Chaitra Sangkranti.
As part of the event, renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer Bulbul Islam and Shahnaz Nasrin Ila rendered songs. Traditional Maljora gaan were performed by the teams of singer Radhu Thakur of Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria and singer Gaurango Sarkar of Habiganj.
Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, senior members of the faculty and management, and IUB students enjoyed the various activities of Chaitra Sangkranti 1424.
