London Grace International School celebrates Universal Children’s Day

Childhood is about learning through play and not just about studying. That was the theme of the celebration of Universal Children's Day organised by London Grace International School (LGIS).

"If the Covid-19 situation has taught us anything, it is to pay even more attention to our children's mental well-being," stated Mafruda Khan, founder and Principal of LGIS.

The pandemic drastically affected the growth and mental health of children. The two-year-long isolation and distancing have not been good for them. "Now that the situation has improved and schools have reopened, we are trying to bring a sense of normalcy back into our students' school activities," said Tasneem Ferdousi, one of the Vice-Principals of LGIS.

This was the first school event specifically designed for the school's students in almost two years since the beginning of the pandemic. Since the recent on-campus limited opening, LGIS created a day's worth of activities to engage the students in sports and games at their Iqbal Road campus.

The children were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite fictional characters. There were also games involving the use of quick math and rapid reflexes as well as stunts to display the students' athletic prowess. "You cannot learn if you cannot have a little fun in between," said Saddam Shojol, LGIS's sports teacher.

This Universal Children's Day by UNICEF is all about children and young people raising their voices on issues that matter. There is no better way to jump-start that than by making sure young people feel special and appreciated. LGIS has recently celebrated 25 years of serving the educational needs of children in Dhaka. The school plans to hold more youth development programs in the coming months.
