WORDS: Less is more
While what I am about to say won’t apply to quite a few different types of writings, it addresses an issue we often face with reader submissions. A lot of us have this misconception that wordier write-ups mean that they are good. Leave your thesaurus aside for a second and consider this: people have shorter attention spans than ever, why would someone enjoy reading your piece if they have to look up words every other sentence? A common example I often cite are 4chan greentexts. They use an exaggeratingly simple syntax to deliver a story and have become a format in their own right on the internet. If what you are writing about isn’t interesting nor informative enough, it just won’t hold up no matter the assortment of words you use. Don’t write to impress, write to communicate.
