Why do we still compare?

Recently, there's been some disgruntlement about how consoles are adopting the periodical hardware upgrades that PCs have been exhibiting since forever. PC and console gamers have been exchanging blows regarding graphical fidelity on a much greater scale as of late because of this. This is making us overlook the major problem here. Consoles are supposed to be one-off purchases that will persist for at least 6-7 years. By coming up with these improved versions of consoles, the big companies are getting the opportunity to boost new hardware sales by forcing the consumer to have an inferior experience should they decide to stick with legacy hardware. It's time we addressed this larger issue at hand instead of bickering.
