The Improbable Emblem
French fries – available in distinctive varieties all across the globe,
Each with a unique virtue, able to make one's taste buds explode.
Although they are crafted from the same tuberous crop,
A non identical kind can be fashioned with every chop.
Whether the contrast lies in size, shape, taste or place of origin,
The fact that every type is delectable seems to be the masses' opinion.
However, the same could not be said if the words French fries were to be replaced.
If the word humans was used instead, a different predicament would have to be faced.
Even though, just like French fries, initially we are all the selfsame,
Over the course of time we tend to set our differences aflame.
The same characteristics that enable these starchy treats to start a mouth-watering revolution,
Lead to innocuous people being subjected to all manners of discrimination.
We feel it a desideratum to tell ourselves that like us, there are none,
But we fail to comprehend that if we amalgamate, we have already won.
So since we are all living under the same sporadically azure sky,
Why, despite the parallels, must we choose to be so different from a french fry?
