It would just take you one search on YouTube to see that even “natural makeup” takes up to 20 minutes and that too by makeup gurus. That's the reason why it takes some people hours to get ready – getting your make up “on point” is not easy. Below are the overblown promises and unattainable makeup standards for simpletons, like yours truly, represented by tutorials.

MAGICALLY TRANSFORM INTO A CELEBRITY WITH THE POWER OF CONTOURING
There are countless tutorials on the internet for turning your face into that of almost any popular celebrity. At the time of writing, there were no less than 613,000 results on YouTube for “Kardashian Makeup Tutorial” (I kid you not). After layers of bronzers, blushes, highlights, and more, the makeup artist might look a little bit like the celebrity s/he set out to be; well, if you squint your eyes and tilt your head a little. Chances are, when you try it yourself, you will look like a poorly executed caricature. Just a photo caption idea after you try it, “My friends think I look like *insert celebrity name*; you see it too, don't you? DON'T YOU?!”

OWN ALL THE PRODUCTS YOU NEED FOR THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A LOOK
No matter how many drawers full of makeup you have, in almost every video you will inevitably find at least three or four items that you don't own. Obviously, that particular brand of foundation used in that particular video is absolutely essential regardless of the dozen other foundations of the exact same type you have lying around just waiting to be used more than once.  

MASTER MAKEUP HACKS
When you see YouTube makeup artists upload a video with a title along the lines of “Crazy Hacks to Try” rest assured of one thing – crazy is rarely an exaggeration. There are tutorials out there that will try to convince you to use a ladle to contour your face while miraculously not teasing your face to a red mess. Of the many “hacks” there are ones that suggest putting tape on your face “for the perfect winged liner”; at what expense you ask? Well, giving yourself a free (partial) face wax.

ACCOMPLISH EVERY STEP WITHOUT SCREW UPS 
The single swipe of a brush or that simple stroke of liquid liner is really not as easy as it looks. When trying to copy the steps, especially the first time around, the application of the products probably aren't going to go as planned; unless of course you have become an expert in following instructions at high speed (in which case this whole article isn't for you). Probability that the peacock themed eye makeup will turn into a mess of green and blue is higher than you'd want to believe and you'll be lucky if the upper portion of your face doesn't look like a stylised version of an ogre. 
While the reasons to be frustrated with makeup tutorials are many, some guides are genuinely helpful and can lead you to your desired beauty goals. In finding those rare gems, may the odds be with you.
