HBO stuns with House of the Dragon trailer
HBO revelead the trailer of their highly anticipated new show, House of the Dragon, late on July 20, to widespread admiration and excitement.
Taking place within the deep, rich lore of the fantasy world weaved by George RR Martin, the show follows the story of House Targaryen, one of the major families in the fictional continent of Westeros. The events of the upcoming TV series is said to chronicle the events leading up to and covering the civil war that took place within the Targaryen family, known as the Dance of Dragons.
The storyline of House of the Dragon precedes the timeline of the original TV show Game of Thrones, and the series of books GoT was based on, A Song of Ice and Fire. But the Dance of Dragons is a well referenced event in the fantasy lore, as well as an important historical incident. The details of this war and much of the early Targaryen history was included in the spinoff book Fire and Blood, written by George R R Martin and released in 2018.
The original run of 8 seasons of GoT ended in disappointment for fans as the TV show had outpaced the yet unfinished series of books that they were supposed to be based on and the story came to an unsatisfying ending. But fans are hopeful that House of the Dragon will be able to scratch the itch that was left by DB Weiss and Dan Benioff's subpar execution, as it is based totally on lore penned by the original creator of the fantasy world, George RR Martin.
