Return of the counter comeback on Match 5 of The Daily Star GENIUS
Match 5 of The Daily Star GENIUS powered by Walton Smart Fridge, an online inter-school quiz competition, took place on November 2, 2020 between International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB), Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College (MPSC) and Anandaniketan School of Sylhet (ANS). It was an all out fight of wits, with students answering questions about the Genghis Khan, Dick Cheney, Bangladeshi bank notes and a combination of interesting general knowledge.
Wajahat Shams Wazih from ANS emerged victorious in the end, with Saiha Nawar Khan from IHSB coming in second, and Jehan Rahman from MPSC rounding up the tally. From the beginning of the contest, Wazih shaped up comfortably with the lead. Jehan fell behind quite early but Saiha stayed in the hunt throughout, with point differences fluctuating but never going out of reach. At the end of 25 questions, Saiha was just 21 points behind, and to everyone's excitement, Saiha managed to take a slender lead after question number 30. After that, however, came the rapid fire round, where anything can happen. And quite unexpectedly, in this short segment, Wazih managed to turn it around once again. He finished with 1742 points, only slightly ahead of second placed Saiha on 1662 points. Jehan struggled throughout, but ended up with a respectable 580 points.
"Thank you, thanks a lot," was all a clearly relieved Wazih could say when praised for his stellar effort. He proceeds to the next round where 4 contestants are already waiting to compete and become the first ever The Daily Star GENIUS.
