A Tribute to SUITS
Warning: Contains season 9 spoilers.
It’s been two weeks since “Suits”, the TV show, ended and if you’re still struggling to find coping mechanisms to deal with the loss like I am, ask yourself—WWHD? Meaning, “What would Harvey do?”
It’s safe to say that Suits has provided us with countless life lessons over the years. The great Harvey Specter, with his initial arrogant and cocky self, showed us that there’s more to life than being the best closer in a city like New York; whereby somewhere between “caring makes you weak” to him finally marrying the love of his life, we witnessed one of the greatest character developments of recent times. Mike Ross taught us to always stand for what is right even if that meant making sacrifices, while Rachel Zane showed us the power of perseverance and making it on your own. Donna Paulsen taught us how to be the ultimate badass and save the day when nothing goes right for anyone. And while Jessica Pearson illustrated the art of being the most charismatic of leaders, Louis transitioned from being selfish and bitter to a selfless and loving colleague/friend, all the while showing unwavering loyalty for his firm.
The show’s notable bromance in the form of Harvey and Mike’s epic “Butch and Sundance” relationship made us fall in love with their witty back and forths, countless Hollywood references and overall heart-warming brotherhood. Not to mention, the plethora of emotions that “Darvey” nation went through over the first eight seasons of the show, witnessing their will-they-won’t-they journey coming to a perfect conclusion sums up how much we went through. There were countless other dynamics, namely Louis-Harvey’s bittersweet bond which turned into a lifelong friendship, Jessica-Harvey’s mentor-mentee relationship and Rachel-Donna’s Michelle Ross and Harriet Specter girls’ night outs.
All in all, while the fast paced legal plots of the show attracted millions of fans in its initial stages, the story arcs of its characters and the bond they shared kept the fans coming back for more. Suits taught us a lot of things but most of all it taught us the meaning of family, in all of its forms, and the importance of loyalty and sacrifice. Although the show that we have grown so much to love has ended, the characters and the lessons they left behind will live on forever.
