Best buys for steam's south asian region update

So recently the biggest online platform for game distribution, Steam, got a huge update to how it prices games for us. For those of you unfamiliar with Steam's policies, it prices games by region, and some countries (such as Bangladesh) didn't have a region and thus used US store prices, which are expensive considering how much a dollar is worth here.

But all that's changed as of a few weeks ago: Bangladeshis are now charged much fairer thanks to the new South Asian Dollar region. This means certain games are now much cheaper for us, so we get more value out of our money. So without further ado, let's look at some of the best games you can get from this new pricing update.

ULTIMATE CHICKEN HORSE

Cost: $6.99 ($4.19 at 40% off on latest sale)

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a relatively new game, releasing last year to great acclaim. Popularized even further by YouTubers, this game is a fun, zany party platformer where you take on the role of a farm animal trying to reach a goal, but placing hazards and traps along the way to prevent your friends from reaching it too. You only get a point if only one of you reaches, and you all take turns in placing the traps.

The game is wacky and exciting, and offers great replayability thanks to a level creator system, allowing you to customize your experience and keep cursing at your friends for making you lose every time.

CUPHEAD

Cost: $8.19 ($6.96 at 15% off on latest sale)

Cuphead is a classic throwback to the golden era of animation, mixed in with the difficulty scale of being hard enough to make Dark Souls look easy at times.

It's very hard to not appreciate the nostalgia factor of 1930s cartoons with traditional hand-drawn cel-shaded animation and the jazzy soundtrack, but this run-and-gun game offers some great gameplay as well. You play as Cuphead (and his brother Mugman too if you're playing co-op) as you fight a series of bosses in a quest to pay back the devil.  By far and away one of the most acclaimed games of the year, if you like a challenge and a retro feel to your entertainment, this is a MUST.

SID MEIER'S CIVILIZATION V: COMPLETE EDITION

Cost: $118.84 ($9.77 at 92% off on latest sale)

Every now and then there's an old game that's an absolute steal on sale, and Civilization V is one of them. The complete edition of the second newest turn based strategy game in Sid Meier's Civilization series offers so much content that if this is the only game on this list you buy, you'll probably still be playing it a year later.

The epitome of "one more turn", you'll find it hard to keep quitting as you slowly expand your chosen historical empire and try and conquer the world (or go to space or make everyone cultured/religious if you're the non-violent kind) while devising strategies along the way to ensure your rivals in-game don't become as powerful world leaders as you.

It's intensely addicting and great fun on both single-player and multiplayer, and let's be real, it's pretty easy to justify why you spent the last 3 days sheltered inside your room angrily scowling at Gandhi for nuking you once, and why you didn't quit till you got your revenge.

STARDEW VALLEY

Cost: $6.99 ($4.68 at 33% off on latest sale)

The spiritual successor to Nintendo's beloved Harvest Moon franchise, this indie farming simulator is an one-man work of love. Eric Barone's beautiful game lets you take control of a person who takes up his grandfather's old plot of land, where you take up restoring the farm, along the way meeting well fleshed out NPCs and exploring for resources to improve the land.

The game is open-ended and lets you do things however you please, while feeding you great doses of wholesomeness as you develop a love for a genre you probably would never try under normal circumstances. And as if single-player escapism wasn't good enough, Eric Barone plans on implementing multiplayer soon so now you can share the gorgeous experience alongside a friend or two. With a great amount of content and a dev who loves giving to the fans, Stardew Valley is something everyone needs a little bit of in their lives.

FACTORIO

Cost: $8.00 (no sale available)

Factorio's the only game on this list in Early Access, and by far and away the most complicated, but greatly rewarding. This resource gathering focused real-time strategy game sees you try to build an industry on a planet you crashed on so you can build a rocket to go home.

But as an open-ended game, you don't have to let it end there. In typical fashion similar to other construction games, you can go wild with your imagination and creativity and make crazy things out of your factories. While the game's got a good learning curve, the hours invested in after you pick it up will pay off. And it's got multiplayer too, so you can go make factories with a friend.

All in all, with the current Steam winter sale going on, you should strongly consider buying one or two of these games while they're still on sale. They're all worth your money and time, and definitely all have something for casuals and hardcore gamers alike.

Nuhan B. Abid is someone who really sucks at his favorite games, so he just sticks to multiplayer. Ask him for his Steam ID so you can destroy him at nuhanbabid@hotmail.com
