2017 has been a momentous year for the Bangladeshi film industry. Various movies, songs, news and gossips kept the fans busy all throughout the year, making 2017 the year with the highest number of incidents to have taken place both in and outside the FDC. The Dhallywood box office witnessed its fair share of excitement with the release of each new film, and like always, some stood above the rest. Star Showbiz looks into five of the most prominent films of 2017 that proved to be memorable box office hits.

Dhaka Attack was arguably this year's biggest hit. The plot, cast, crew, settings and technicality- everything deserves a thumb up for the smooth execution. Arefin Shuvo and Mahiya Mahi received enormous love and support from the audience. Taskin Rahman earned the title of the coolest villain after the film release, with Dipankar Dipan being recognized for his wonderful job as the Director. Dhaka Attack ran for a long time in the cinema halls due to its high public demand. Full of action, drama and suspense, this film moved Bengali movie lovers with its plot and settings.

The King of Dhallywood made a comeback with another sensational hit this year. While Rajneeti has made its mark in the mind of the fans, Nabab was the film that truly reminded everyone what Shakib is capable of. Nabab splashed the box office soon after its release and was praised by many critics for its plot, cast and cinematography. Shakib's acting and striking looks had left many jaws dropped on the floor, and coupled with the success he gained from Rajneeti, it is safe to say that 2017 was a successful year for Shakib Khan.

To many, the most controversial movie of the year was Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's Doob. The controversy was fueled due to the plot's similarity with the life of our beloved writer Humayun Ahmed. The protagonist Irrfan Khan pulled off his character with charismatic acting and portrayed Javed Hasan's midlife crisis accordingly. Tisha, Rokeya Prachy and Parno Mittra played the prominent female characters and displayed impressive acting as well. Doob won the Kommersant Weekend Prize and has been nominated for the Moscow Film Festival Prize for Best Film, Director, Actor and Actress.

Zakir Hossen Raju's Premi O Premi also won numerous hearts this year. Arefin Shuvo and Nusrat Faria coupled up for this film, and they simply looked great together! This was a successful movie with a surprising plot-twist balanced with colourful settings. Premi O Premi also hit the box office and ran for a long time in the theatres. Both the actors' performances were applauded by the critics and fans.

Haldaa, the movie that talks about the struggles of Bangladeshi fishermen's lives, is still winning millions of hearts in its fourth week. This film created a buzz among the moviegoers of Bangladesh for its intricate detailed work on settings and story. Celebrated filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury marked Haldaa as a 'humanitarian deed of the honest Bangla cinema'. Tauquir Ahmed has been praised for his attempt at advocating the lives of the working fishermen class.
