The Danish Girl Opens with a 10-Minute Standing Ovation in Venice Premie
Universal and Working Title execs are elated after the gala world premiere of "The Danish Girl" wowed at the Venice Film Festival. The period transgender drama received a 10-minute standing ovation in the Sala Grande — not a common happenstance for a film there.
Star Eddie Redmayne, who earlier called his role as Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe "a dream come true," is again firmly on the awards trail. He and lauded co-stars including Alicia Vikader, Mattias Schoenaerts and Amber Heard were all on hand for the premiere where there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
