BNP mass rally in Sylhet
BNP's divisional rally began on Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet city's Chowhatta area today around 11:10am. BNP's Sylhet district president, Abdul Quiyum Choudhury, said: "More people are attending the rally than we expected -- we had hoped to welcome more than four lakh people. We anticipate that when more supporters join, the crown will spill over the surrounding areas." Earlier in the day, BNP supporters were seen marching towards the venue in procession chanting slogans and holding placards. Though the transport strike almost cut off Sylhet from the rest of the country, the activists, mostly from the four districts in the division, travelled to the city on rented buses, trucks, private vehicles, motorcycles, and boats. Earlier, mobile phone users in Sylhet complained of difficulties in connecting to the internet on their devices since 10:00am, ahead of the BNP rally in the district today.
DU's 53rd convocation
On the occasion of its 53rd convocation, Dhaka University, the country's oldest university, donned a festive look today with colourful banners, festoons, placards, and arches. Graduates in convocation outfits flocked to the campus and met with classmates, friends and teachers on the day. A total of 30,348 students registered for the convocation of whom 22,287 are from Dhaka University and 7,796 students from the affiliated colleges. A total of 153 gold medals were conferred on teachers, researchers and students for their research and academic excellence. Besides, 97 received Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees while 35 academics MPhil degrees. Students and teachers from seven colleges also joined the convocation virtually.
Gazipur city AL's maiden council
Gazipur city Awami League has completed all the preparations for holding its maiden council today. Leaders and activists of the ruling party have been thronging the rally venue -- Rajbari field -- since morning. AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader will be present as the chief guest at the meeting, scheduled to start at 1:00pm. Gazipur city wore a festive look as roads have been decorated with colourful banners, posters and arches. The successes of the Awami League government in various sectors have been highlighted in the banners and festoons. Following the formation of Gazipur City Corporation in 2013, Azmat Ullah Khan and Jahangir Alam were made the president and general secretary in 2015 without holding any council.

Chris Hemsworth and his Alzheimer's diagnosis
Chris Hemsworth is taking a break from acting after learning that he is genetically predisposed to Alzheimer's disease. The "Thor" star found out about the news while filming the fifth episode of his Disney+ series "Limitless," after he met with a doctor and learned he has a genetic tendency to the degenerative disease that destroys memory and other vital mental functions. In an interview published Thursday, Hemsworth told Vanity Fair that the revelation inspired him to take more time off work to be with his family. "It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I've been completing the things I was already contracted to do, I'm going home and I'm going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife," revealed Hemsworth.
