The world's eight billion people today prepared to usher in 2023 and farewell a turbulent 12 months marked by war in Europe, stinging price rises and Lionel Messi's world cup glory.

After a few pandemic-dampened years, many will be looking to cut loose this New Year's Eve -- setting aside pinched budgets and a virus that is increasingly forgotten, but not gone.

Dhaka has once again topped the list of world cities with the worst air quality.

The capital's air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 221 at 09:04 am today.

India's Delhi and Ghana's Accra occupied the next two spots, with AQI scores of 203 and 199, respectively.

9 dead after SUV rams into bus in India's Gujarat

At least nine people were killed and 15 were left injured after a luxury bus and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided in Gujarat's Navsari district today.

The accident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway, reports The Hindu quoting Navsari's Deputy Superintendent of Police V N Patel.

Ronaldo joins Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday signed for Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, the club announced, in a deal believed to be worth more than 200 million euros.

The 37-year-old penned a contract which will take him to June 2025.

"I can't wait to discover a new football league in a different country," said the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus player.
