Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allocated Tk 9 crore as Eid gift for the shop employees, traders and owners at the capital's Bangabazar, who were affected by a massive fire on April 4.

The money has already been transferred through mobile phones, said Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, reports UNB.

The blaze ripped through the Bangabazar Shopping Complex, burning down at least 2,931 shops full of clothes and ruining the livelihood of several thousand traders just weeks before Eid.

The disaster struck four years after the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence declared the shopping complex risky because of its lack of fire safety and asked people to be cautious.
