Death toll from cyclone Sitrang reaches 19

The death toll from Cyclone Sitrang rose to 19 after a Myanmar national died after falling form a ship anchored at thr Teknaf port yesterday (October 24, 2022).

The Myanmar national Shouming (71), died around 9:30pm last night after falling from a ship anchored at the Teknaf Port, due to the heavy winds caused by the Cyclone Sitrang, Md Jashim Uddin, director general of the port told The Daily Star.

The ship came to Teknaf port a week ago with goods, he added.

Two people were killed in Kasba and Nabinagar upazilas of Brahmanbaria under the influence of cyclone Sitrang, UNOs of the two districts told The Daily Star.

Two others were killed as a tree fell on them during the storm in Munshiganj while a child died after being hit by a tree in Noakhali.

Also, two women died in tree fall in Gopalganj.

Quoting Mosaddek Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station in Sirajganj, our Pabna correspondent reported that Ayesha Siddika (30) and her son Arafat (3), drowned in a canal in Mohanpur area around 8pm yesterday.

Soon after the cyclone lashed the country last evening (October 24, 2022), nine people were killed in Cumilla, Bhola, Barguna, Narail, Shariatpur and Dhaka.
