Long line, longer wait... but it was worth it!
People have been queueing since early morning to get a ride on the metro rail.
However, many had to return after failing to secure tickets.
Commuters were seen queued at both Agargaon and Uttara North stations.
Many people who managed to enter the stations, faced troubles while buying tickets.
Mohammed Sohel stood in line at Agargaon Station around 9:00am. Like him, around 400-500 people who stood in line before him did not manage to get a ride as well.
"It was my dream to ride the metro rail today [Friday] as it was a weekend. I could not enter the station despite standing in line for 3 hours," he said.
Another passenger ,Saima Khatun, at Uttara North Station said, "I could not manage to get a ride on the metro rail even after waiting for two hours."
Meanwhile, those who did manage to get a ride on the metro rail were elated.
Businessperson Kamruzzaman said he and his family were very excited to get a ride on the metro.
One Raihan Chowdhury said, "After waiting in line for hours, I managed to get tickets. It was a dream of mine to get a ride on the new metro, which came true. But I don't think it will be possible to get a ticket for the return trip due to the rush. We have to find an alternate way to return back."
Shimu Akter was seen purchasing tickets for her and her children. "Finally, we got the tickets. The line was long, the wait even longer... but at the end we got the tickets and were able to ride on the metro. It was worth it!," she told this correspondent.
Her children were too excited to comment. They kept asking their mother, "Please mom can we go again."
A section of the metro rail, from Agargaon to Uttara's Diabari, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on December 28.
It was opened for all the next day.
