No more bodies inside damaged building: fire service
There are no more bodies inside the rubble of the Siddikbazar budling, the site of a deadly blast on Tuesday, fire service officials said after recovering another body today.
"We conducted rescue operation since morning. So far we came to know there are no missing persons. There is no body inside the building," Md Akhtaruzzaman, assistant director (Dhaka) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told reporters at the spot.
Two families had earlier claimed that their two relatives were missing. One of them, Abdul Malek, was supposed to catch a Savar-bound bus from Gulistan on the day of the blast, while another, Imtiaz Mohammad Bhuiyan Selim, went missing after he left his Monipuripara residence.
The blast occurred near a BRTC bus stand in Gulistan.
The families, however, were not sure whether their relatives' disappearances were linked to the blast.
Earlier at noon, fire service officials said they had been been struggling to conduct rescue operations at the basement of the ravaged Siddikbazar building as water was continuously seeping in from a broken Wasa pipeline.
Firefighters said they informed Dhaka Wasa officials about the problem soon after they started the operation around 8:00am but none came to the site in nearly four hours.
