Nine out of 24 columns in the basement and ground floor of the Siddikbazar building in the capital's Gulistan were damaged in yesterday's explosion, said Rajuk member (development) Maj (retd) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury.

A Rajuk committee will carry out an assessment to see if the building could be retrofitted and used, he said while talking to reporters after visiting the building last night.

Earlier, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) formed a six-member committee to assess the condition of the building.

The committee, led by Major (retd) Shamsuddin, will submit a report within three working days, said Rajuk Chairman Anisur Rahman Miah.

The technical body visited the spot tonight and inspected various parts of the ravaged building and its adjacent buildings with the help of fire service.
