Agent not allowed to enter a polling station, Taimur says
After casting his vote, Narayanganj City Corporation polls' independent mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar said that although voting is yet to gain momentum, his agent was not allowed to enter a polling station.
"My agent, Helal, was not allowed to enter the polling centre in Siddhirganj 5 ward. I've asked the leaders of that area to look into this, and I'm going to see for myself," he added.
He said if a free and fair election is held, he is hopeful of wining the polls by one lakh vote margin.
Regarding the voting atmosphere, he said as of now the situation is good.
He said some voters were barred from coming to the polling centres and urged the administration to allow voters to enter the voting centres.
"Voters are not being allowed into polling centres without ID card, but an ID card is not required to cast vote," he said.
"It is possible to match fingerprints. Voting rights should be granted to those whose fingerprints match. The streets are being blocked by police as they look for ID cards. This is something that should not be done," Taimur said.
He asked the police to ensure that no outsiders enter the polling stations, our local correspondent reports.
