4 national footballers suspended over disciplinary grounds
Skipper Mamunul Islam and winger Jahid Hossain have been suspended for a year, while defender Yasin Khan and mid-fielder Sohel Rana for six months.
Goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel, defender Atikur Rahman Meshu and defender Yamin Ahmed Chowdhury Munna were served with warning letters in this connection.
Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Nabil Ahmed told reporters that the decision was made considering a better future of Bangladesh’s football.
The suspended players, however, will be able to play for their clubs in domestic leagues but they will remain barred from appearing for the national team.
Kazi Nabil, also National Team’s Committee chairman, told reporters that a fact finding committee was formed following players’ failure in last SAFF Suzuki Cup and Bangabandhu Gold Cup.
After the committee submitted its report, a hearing of the players concerned was held. Afterwards, the National Team’s Committee made the decision, Kazi Nabi said.
