Tamim leaves Essex due to 'personal reasons'
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal’s stint with the Essex Eagles in the Natwest T20 Blast has come to a premature end, according to Essex County Cricket Club’s official website, which has informed that the left-hander will leave Essex due to personal reasons.
Tamim had only reached Essex on Saturday and played against Kent Spitfires the following day, when he scored seven.
Tamim appeared in Sunday's seven-wicket loss to Kent but today Essex released a statement saying his stay was over.
"Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that overseas player Tamim Iqbal has left the club with immediate effect due to personal reasons," the statement read.
"We wish him all the best, and it would be appreciated if Tamim's privacy is respected during this time."
Tamim was expected to have an extended eight-match stint with Essex as Bangladesh’s next international assignment was Australia’s tour of the country in late August, a tour currently under threat because of the pay dispute. It has been learnt that the left-hander was due to start off for Bangladesh tonight, and he was unwilling to comment before coming home.
Tamim starred with the bat for Bangladesh in the recent Champions Trophy scoring a splendid century against England, falling five short of another century against Australia and hitting 70 in the semi-final against India.
