BCB president sees huge potential for women in sports
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan spoke at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) event today and he called for more coverage of women in sports.
Speaking at the event, the BCB president reiterated that cricket has gained much popularity in Bangladesh and the credit goes not only to the cricketers who are inspiring children to go out there and play but also reporters who cover the sports.
"In maximum newspapers (in Bangladesh), cricket is the news that is always the priority when it comes to sports news. That does not happen in any other country.
"Cricket is popular in England and Australia but when it comes top news, cricket is not the one. It is usually rugby or football.
"Only in Bangladesh does one see that the first sports news is regarding cricket," he said.
He also called for the involvement of women reporters in DRU sports events.
"There is a huge potential for women's cricket in Bangladesh. Incredible potential. If we can provide the new generation with the right opportunities then there is nothing that they can't achieve.
"The U-16 women's team became champions in football. So women have huge potential in sports, he added.
The president then presented the DRU with Tk 5 Lakh during the opening ceremony of the event.
