Evans powers his way to BPL’s first ton of the season
Englishman Laurie Evans powered his way to Bangladesh Premier League's first ton of the season to see his side post 176 runs for the loss of three wickets against Comilla Victorians at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today.
The right-hander started watchfully -- his first 37 runs coming off 36 deliveries, as he scored his runs at just over a run-a-ball, however, it all ended with a raging display of power-hitting as he picked up his ton in 61 deliveries -- the rest of the 63 runs coming off just 25 deliveries. He finished on an unbeaten 104 off 62 deliveries, hitting nine fours and six sixes along the way.
He picked up the rate when he started his onslaught in the 14th over of the innings, hitting Thisara Perera for two sixes and picking up his fifty in the same over. He never looked back from there as the 31-year old hit the 13th ton in the BPL's history and was the second-oldest player to score a ton in BPL after Chris Gayle.
He plundered Wahab Riaz for 21 runs with two sixes and a four in the 19th over to get to 99 before a single off the second delivery off the 20th, took him to his hundred. He finished the innings in style with a four as he and Ryan ten Doeschate (59* off 41) took Rajshahi to a strong total.
