CPL 2018: Barbados acquire Shakib at US $130,000
The player' draft for the 2018 Hero CPL T20 Caribbean Premier League took place on March 1 at Gfinity eSports Arena in London and Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was acquired by the Barbados Tridents.
Shakib was acquired at the second highest salary cap slot – 130,000 US Dollar by the Tridents. Last year Shakib played for CPL outfit Jamaica Tallawahs although he played only three matches for the franchise before he flew back home for national team duties. In three innings last season, he scored 61 runs at an average of 30.5 with his best being a match-winning unbeaten 44 against his current team Barbodos Tridents. He also bagged two wickets last season, where he bowled nine overs in three matches and conceded 66 runs.
Coincidentally, Mahmudullah Riyad, replaced Shakib at the Tallawahs squad last season in what was his very first stint at the Carribean Premier League. Riyad has been fetched at the price of 70,000 US Dollar by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots this time around.
Meanwhile West Indies stars such as Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo were fetched at the highest price -- 160,000 US Dollar. Sohail Tanvir and Martin Guptill were also paid the same by their franchises.
Squad numbers were limited to 18 players for all six teams.
