ICC upholds Mirpur pitch's below average rating
ICC maintained its sanctions on the Mirpur wicket which was used during the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
One demerit point was handed for the Mirpur wicket after match Referee David Boon said in his report that the surface had started breaking from Day 1 of the Test match and heavily favoured the bowlers. Bangladesh lost by 215 runs after being bowled out for 110 and 123 runs in the first and second innings respectively.
The demerit point will remain active for a rolling five-year period and if during this five-year period the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium reaches the threshold of five demerit points, then it will be suspended from staging any international cricket for 12 months, the ICC media release had said.
BCB had appealed against the sanctions but an ICC panel consisting of Geoff Allardice, General Manager – Cricket, and Anil Kumble, Chair of the Cricket Committee have come to the conclusion that the rating given by the match referee is correct.
