Mominul shows his mettle

Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque shows his mettle by scoring 73 runs on the second day of Tigers three-day practice match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Bangladesh Green started the day on 49 runs for the loss of a wicket with Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque at the crease.

The 21 year old Mominul proved that his characteristic orthodox batting was a mark of strength for Bangladesh in Test cricket with a classy innings.

Tamim Iqbal was run out for 29 with the score at 63. Sabbir Rahman was beguiled by spinner Taijul Islam and he left after scoring just 10 runs.

Mominul’s innings stopped shortly before lunch when he was removed by Saqlain Sajib.

The score at lunch was 164 in 49 overs. Nasir Hossain and Tanbir Hayder were at the crease.

Nasir, who came into bat before lunch struck 62 runs before being dismissed off the bowling of Naeem Hasan. Tanbir Hasan also hit a fifty before Rubel Hossain bowled him on 51.

Rubel captured three wickets – he took Liton Das’s wicket yesterday and bowled out Taskin Ahmed.

Sunzamul Islam who is a tail-ender scored 22 before Saqlain Sajib got his wicket.

Saqlain finished with three wickets as well – Mominul, Sunzamul and the wicket of Rabbi who scored two runs.

Tamim Iqbal's Bangladesh Green finished with 283 all out from 78 overs. They take a first innings lead of 143 runs after Bangladesh Red declared their first innings yesterday at 140-9.



Bangladesh Red came into bat and Imrul struck consecutive boundaries off Mustafizur Rahman in the first two balls before being dismissed by the ace quick in the third delivery of the innings. The Reds finished the day with 24 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Soumya Sarkar was batting at nine and Nazmul Hasan scored seven before the end of the second day.
