Abahani defeat Mohammedan to stay top
Abahani Limited returned to winning ways with a six-wicket victory over arch rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club during their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) matchup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today.
Mohammedan started solidly after Abahani captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza sent them in to bat. Liton Das (27 off 38) and Abdul Mazid (26 off 67) started slowly but steadily before Nazmul Islam got Abahani the breakthrough bagging Liton's wicket. Irfan Sukkur and captain Raqibul Hasan both hit half-centuries but Nazmul and all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin brought them back in to the game, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 29 and 3 for 31 respectively as Mohammedan were restricted to 248/7 in 50 overs.
Following the exchange, Abahani were handed a brilliant start by openers Jahurul Islam (96 off 131) and Soumya Sarkar(43 off 54) during a 105-run opening stand. After Soumya's wicket, Wasim Jaffer struck 38 off 42 during a 69-run stand with Jahurul. Mosaddek Hossain (18 off 23) and Sabbir Rahman (21 off 19) took Abahani to victory with six wickets and 15 deliveries to spare. The league leaders have 10 points from six matches after today's matches.
In the days other matches, Legends of Rupganj won by five wickets against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity at Savar while Sheikh Jamal defeated Gazi Group Cricketers by 43 runs at Fatullah.
