An action-packed round

A tied game, a successful high-scoring chase despite twin hundreds from opposing batsmen and a newcomer felling a giant highlighted the Dhaka Premier League across three venues yesterday.

It was an interesting low-scoring affair at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, where Shinepukur CC ended up levelling the scores after losing nine wickets in chase of a 222-run target against BKSP.

Needing ten runs from the last over, Indian recruit Unmukht Chand, who was batting on 71, managed to score just three runs off the first three balls by Tanzim Hasan.

Delwar Hossain struck a boundary and kept hope alive but he was run out while trying to take a double, meaning Shinepukur required two runs off the last ball. Shoriful was then also run out while attempting a second, tying the game.

Earlier, BKSP posted 222 for eight in 50 overs riding on opener Prantik Nawraz's 81 and middle order batsman Abdul Kayium's 66-ball 70. Medium pacer Delwar scalped three wickets. Both Shinepukur and BKSP have two wins from seven games.

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Brothers Union fell to a five-wicket defeat against Prime Bank CC despite hundreds from Mizanur Rahman and Fazle Mahmud.

Junaid Siddique departed cheaply after Brothers were asked to bat before Mizanur and Fazle added 193 runs for the second wicket. Mizanur departed for exactly a hundred off 109 balls, a knock that saw eight four and five sixes, but Fazle carried on with Yasir Ali as Brothers smashed 127 runs off the last 12 overs to post 330 for two for in 50 overs.

Fazle remained unbeaten on 149 off 147 balls, striking 13 fours and five sixes, while Yasir struck a blistering 37-ball 61.

In reply it was an all-round effort from the Prime Bank CC batsmen. The experienced Alok Kapali guided the side and remained unbeaten on 82 off 65 deliveries, smashing six fours and three sixes.

Chasing the huge target, Prime Bank lost opener Salman Islam early but Anamul Haque along with Indian batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran maintained the tempo of the innings. Anamul was dismissed on 54 off 47, but Easwaran paired with Al Amin and added another 79-run stand for the third wicket before the latter departed for 52.

Easwaran who was eventually dismissed on 90 off 96 balls, but Kapali's veteran hand ensured Prime Bank clinched their sixth win from seven games while Brothers faced their fourth defeat in seven matches.

Mohammedan SC continued their poor run and succumbed to a fourth consecutive defeat in seven games by a comprehensive seven-wicket margin against newcomers Uttara Sporting Club at the BKSP-4 ground.

Tanzid Hasan struck his maiden List A hundred and remained not out on 101 off 120 balls, guiding Uttara to the small target after Mohammedan were bowled out for 193 in 45.1 overs.

Nadif Chowdhury's 39 was the highest score for Mohammedan. Abdur Rashid and Asaduzzaman bagged three wickets as Uttara clinched their second win from seven games.
