Bangladesh bowled out for 233
6:26 PM: It's stumps on day one as no further play is possible due to bad light
End of Bangladesh innings: Six batsman got into double figures and all of them had starts but in the end none of them could capitalise and play a big innings as Bangladesh managed just 233 in their first innings. Mohammad Mithun's 63 and Shanto's 44 early in the morning the only bright spots in another dismal innings for Bangladesh. Shaheen Shah bagged a four-fer while Mohmammad Abbas and Haris Sohail bagged two each.
82.5: Ban 233 all out: Abu Jayed hits one to Mohammad Abbas at mid on and the fielder is sharp with his pick up and throw. Jayed has no idea what's happening and leisurely looks to place his bat inside the crease but he is too slow. A direct hit and he is gone. Abu Jayed run out (Mohammad Abbas) 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
81.2: Ban 233/9 - Brilliant delivery from Naseem as Mithun struggles to get his bat to the length delivery. Pakistan appeal is turned down and they review the decision. Ball clipped the gloves on the way through to the wicket-keeper. Mithun departs. Mohammad Mithun c †Mohammad Rizwan b Naseem Shah 63 (140b 7x4 1x6) SR: 45.00
80.6: Ban 229/8 - Shaheen Shah comes back into the attack and removes Rubel Hossain with a delivery that pitched on middle with the angle and tailed in to beat the expansive drive from the batsman before bowling him out. Rubel Hossain b Shaheen Shah Afridi 1 (9b 0x4 0x6) SR: 11.11
79.5: Ban 219/7: Mithun slams one through mid wicket off Yasir Shah to bring up his fifty. He survived two dropped chances during his innings and has made it count.
78.5: Ban 214/7 - A rush of blood from Taijul and he has thrown away his wicket. Slices this one up and Yasir completes an excellent catch at mid off. The batsman will be disappointed having kept Pakistan at bay for so long and then losing his wicket in this manner. Taijul Islam c Yasir Shah b Haris Sohail 24 (72b 4x4 0x6) SR: 33.33
77.1: Ban 211/6 - Mithun tucks it away to the leg side to complete a single and that brings up the fifty partnership between him and Taijul.
75.5: Ban 205/6: Yasir Shah flights one up and Mithun thumps it straight to the bowler. Dropped! The ball was travelling and looks like Yasir did some damage to his hands. That's yet another life for Mithun this innings.
74.4: Ban 200/6: Mithun gets a single and that brings up the 200 for Bangladesh. It has been very slow progress since tea but the visitors will be happy that unlike the first two sessions, they did not lose wickets at the start of the third session.
End of over 72: Taijul Islam has shown resilience against the Pakistan attack and applied himself as he along with Mithun look to take the score past 200 and see out the the third session. Difficult task neverthless as Naseem Shah comes back in to the attack.
4:52 PM: The players are back on the field after tea for the third and final session of the day.
4:32 PM: It's Tea on day one. End of over 63 - Bangladesh have negotiated the remaining over before tea without any further losses after Liton's departure. Mohammad Mithun was joined by Taijul Islam as Bangladesh went to tea at 172 for six.
55.3: Ban 161/6 - Liton goes for the sweep Haris Sohail. The Pakistan team appeals unconvincingly at first as the umpire says not out. Haris wants the review and replays show that it was pitching in leg and hitting the stumps. Out. Liton departs. Yet another batsman has gone after getting a start. Liton Das lbw b Haris Sohail 33 (46b 7x4 0x6) SR: 71.73
54.3: Ban 157/5 - Things are happening as Yasir Shah comes in to bowl to Mithun. The right-hander has been playing the cuts and slashes off the back foot to the leg-spinner. This time he goes for it again and it's a simple catch at point but dropped!
53.2: Ban 157/5 - Liton flicks one through square leg off Abbas and the ball races away to the boundary. 50 up for Liton and Mithun. The duo have kept things steady after two quick wickets.
End of 50 overs: Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun have been able to keep Pakistan at bay after the fall of two wickets at the beginning of the second session. Pakistan resorted to the plan of bouncing Liton out since he was driving well to full length deliveries and the batsman has responded with a few hooks and pulls so far.
40.3: Ban 107/5 - Mahmudullah slashes at a full and angled delivery outside the off stump and gets a thick outside edge. It's Asad Shafiq at slip who takes a blinder diving to his right. The ball was flying but so was Asad. Poor shot from Riyad. Mahmudullah c Asad Shafiq b Shaheen Shah Afridi 25 (48b 4x4 0x6) SR: 52.08
36.2: Ban 100/4 - Mahmudullah runs a risky double after getting an inside edge off Shaheen. Bangladesh reach 100-run mark in their first innings.
33.6: Ban 95/4 - Having done all the hard work in that first session, Shanto chases at a regular delivery outside off stumps and edges it through to the wicket-keeper first over after Lunch. It was the last delivery of the over from Mohammad Abbas and Shanto falls after a solid knock. Nazmul Hossain Shanto c †Mohammad Rizwan b Mohammad Abbas 44 (110b 6x4 0x6) SR: 40.00
2:30 PM: The players are back in after Lunch. Nazmul set to face Abbas in the second session.
1:30 PM: It's Lunch on day one. Pakistan won the toss and wanted to focus their pace tenacity on Bangladesh early on in day one of the first Test at Rawalpindi. The decision paid dividends as the hosts picked up two wickets, that of openers Saif Hassan and Tamim Iqbal inside the first two overs. Nazmul Hossain Shanto and captain Mominul Haque starred in a fifty stand before the latter played at a delivery outside off-stump and edged it to the wicket-keeper. Shanto has been the bright spot in this first session for Bangladesh as he remained unbeaten on 44 in the first session. Experienced Mahmudullah Riyad played some good-looking shots as Bangladesh made it to Lunch. The lunch break will be an hour long one.
End of over 30: Nazmul Hossain has looked very solid since coming on. Having featured in a fifty stand with Mominul, he is now batting with similar calm with Mahmudullah Riyad. The Pakistan pacers have managed to create problems for Bangladesh on day one of the first Test.
21.6: Ban 61/3: Mominul drives Shaheen delivery outside off and gets the edge through to the wicket-keeper. Showing a lot of promise early on, Mominul has failed to make it count here in Rawalpindi. Mominul Haque c †Mohammad Rizwan b Shaheen Shah Afridi 30 (59b 5x4 0x6) SR: 50.84
19.2: Ban 53/2 - Mominul Haque uses his wrist to flick Shaheen Shah delivery off his pads towards mid on and ball runs away for four. That boundary brings the 50 up for Bangladesh and also the fifty stand between Mominul and Nazmul.
17.6: Ban 44/2 - Shaheen Shah gets Mominul to hang his bat to a delivery that just moves slightly off the pitch. Mominul gets a thick edge and the ball falls just short of man at slip.
14.5: Ban 36/2: Just two deliveries ago he was ducking under a short and pacy one from Naseem Shah but this time Mominul brings out the pull shot to a delivery that did not rise much. Ball goes through to the square leg boundary for four.
End of over 10: Bangladesh duo captain Mominul Haque and youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto have looked to survive the early session with the Pakistan pacers breathing fire. After Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Shah's spell, it't time for young quick Naseem Shah to make the Tigers uncomfortable.
1.4: Ban 3/2 - Mohammad Abbas hits Tamim on the pads and Pakistan appeal. The umpire turns it down but Pakistan decide to review. The ball pitched in line and would have hit the stumps. Tamim falls for just three. Bangladesh are in early trouble, losing two wickets in two overs. Tamim Iqbal lbw b Mohammad Abbas 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00
0.3: Ban 3/1 - Bangladesh have lost opener Saif Hassan in the very first over. The right-hander get out for a duck in his debut. An angled delivery from Shaheen Shah Afridi and Saif edges it through to Asad Shafiq at second slip. Saif Hassan c Asad Shafiq b Shaheen Shah Afridi 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
Pakistan have won the toss and elected to bowl in the first Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi today.
It was a tough outing for the Tigers in the T20 series against Pakistan just recently as they succumbed to a 2-0 series defeat. Bangladesh are coming off the back of a miserable run in Tests both home and away. Their record against Pakistan have not been impressive, losing nine out of 10.
"Look, we need to break the jinx at some point. So, we are ready to break it. Everyone prepared well for the Test and as a result we are very hopeful regarding this fixture," skipper Mominul Haque said during the press-conference following their first and only practice session in Rawalpindi yesterday.
Meanwhile Pakistan will be banking on their pace attack to come up trumps. "At the moment we feel that our fast bowling is a threat for our opposition," Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali said yesterday.
