Sri Lanka thrash Tigers

Sri Lanka registered a whopping 91-run victory against Bangladesh in the first of their three-match ODI series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.

While in chase of a mammoth 315-run target, Bangladesh never looked comfortable. Mushfiqur Rahim's 67 off 86 deliveries and Sabbir Rahman's 60 off 56 balls in the middle could only help Tigers reach 223 in 41.4 overs as they fell short by 91 runs. Lasith Malinga, who played in his last ever ODI, returned impressive figures of three for 38.

Mustafizur Rahman gives himself room and slashes a Lasith Malinga delivery  way up in the air. The fielder at mid off takes a good catch. Great way for Malinga to finish his ODI career. Bangladesh lose by 91 runs. 

Mushy, Shafiul fall in the same over as Tigers hurtle towards defeat

A regulation length ball from Pradeep that clips the top of off stump. Shafiul departs after scoring two.

Mushfiqur Rahim tries to scoop it over the wicketkeeper but gets an edge and ends up giving an easy catch to Kusal Mendis.

DM de Silva strikes. Mehedi Hasan Miraz tries to play it down the third man but gets an edge. A good catch by the wicketkeeper. The tail is now exposed for the Tigers.

That is the last thing that the Tigers needed at the moment. A wide delivery from Kumara. The keeper fails to grab it in the first attempt. He was however quick to take his gloves off and took his time to aim and hits the timber as Mosaddek, who responded to Mushfiqur Rahim's call, was already half way down the track when Mushfiqur refused to complete the run. Mosaddek has to go after scoring 12. Bangladesh in deep trouble.

Mushfiqur Rahim plays a fuller length delivery from DM de Silva towards midwicket and takes a single to bring up his fifty off 61 deliveries. He needs to carry on if Tigers are to register a victory in the game.

Sabbir departs after valiant 60

Sabbir Rahman goes down the track and tries to go over the midwicket. Ends up being caught by Fernando off a DM de Silva delivery. He was looking really good in the middle. A huge blow for the Tigers.

Mushfiqur Rahim cuts a Pradeep delivery towards deep point to take a single. This brings up the hundred-run partnership between Sabbir Rahman and Mushfiqur off just 88 deliveries.

Sabbir Rahman pulls a Thisara Perera delivery towards midwicket to take a single. This brings up his fifty off just 42 balls. A timely knock from the dashing right-hander.

Sabbir Rahman pulls away a short of a length delivery from Kumara for a boundary to bring up hundred for Tigers.

Sabbir Rahman plays a Kumara delivery on the off side to steal a single. This brings up a fifty-run partnership between Sabbir and Mushfiqur Rahim after Tigers had lost four early wickets while in chase of 315 runs. Sabbir moved onto 27 off 20 balls, hitting five boundaries.

Mahmudullah Riyad tries to slice an outside off short delivery from Kumara over third man but only manages to find the fielder. Bangladesh lose their fourth. 

Malinga on fire as he yorks Soumya

Malinga gets Soumya Sarkar with yet another beautiful yorker. An inswinging yorker beats Soumya who tries to defend it with the full face of the bat. Bangladesh lose their third and are in a spot of bother.

Mithun departs, Tigers lose two inside 8 overs

[Wicket] 7.3, BAN 30/2: Mohammad Mithun lbw b Pradeep 10 (21b 1x4 0x6) SR: 47.61

Mohammad Mithun walks across to the off side and tries to flick a Pradeep delivery behind square leg. Misses it completely as the ball struck his pad. Mithun goes for a review after being given out by the onfield umpire. The ball pitches in line and would go and hit middle and leg. A very bad review by Mithun. Bangladesh lose their review and also are in deep trouble.

2.1, BAN 2/1: Sri Lanka lose their review.

Another magnificent yorker from Malinga to Soumya Sarkar. A loud appeal from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka goes for a review after onfield umpire gives not out. The replays showed the the ball was pitching outside leg and would have missed the leg stump. Sri Lanka lose their review.

A trademark delivery from Lasith Malinga to get rid of Bangladesh stand-in skipper Tamim Iqbal. A magnificent yorker that goes through Tamim's bat and pad and rattles his stumps. A great way to start his farewell ODI.

Sri Lanka post 314 for eight

Sri Lanka posted 314 for eight against Bangladesh in their first of the three-match ODI series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.

After electing to bat, Sri lanka got off to a brilliant start. Kusal Perera scored a magnificent 99-ball 111 at the top and the hosts looked set to score around 350 runs at one stage of the game. However, Bangladesh bowlers did a good job at the death as they restricted the Islanders to 314. Right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam took three wickets for 62 runs in his nine overs.

Shafiul picks up the wicket of De Silva as he tries to hut the ball over long-on but only manages to give an easy catch to Sabbir Rahman.

Angelo Mathews tries to hit an outside off fuller length delivery from Mustafizur Rahman over long off but ends up just giving a catch to Sabbir Rahman.

[Wicket] 33.6, SL 212/4 - Rubel removes set batsman Mendis. Outside the off stump and Mendis slashes at it. Mild appeal from the Tigers. Their is no conviction from Mushfiqur Rahim too as he takes the catch. The umpire does not raise his finger but Mendis walks. Bangladesh bag two quick wickets to come back into the match.

30.3, SL 200/2 - Mendis plays one towards mid off to bring up the 200 for Sri Lanka. 

27.4, SL 184/2 - Perera whacks Mosaddek through mid wicket for four to bring up his ton. It's his fifth ODI hundred and came in just 82 deliveries laced with 17 fours and one six. The partnership between Perera and Mendis is going strong as Lankans will target a big total.

26.3, SL 179/2 - Mahmudullah lets off Mendis. Dropped! Soumya's short delivery gained up on Mendis slightly as he went looking for the pull shot. The ball looped high and Mahmudullah ran in from mid wicket and covered the required ground quite well but he can't hold on. 

21.6, SL 153/2 - Mendis pulls Mustafizur towards square leg and gets four to bring up the 150 for Sri Lanka. 

[Wicket] 14.6, SL 107/2 - Sri Lanka lose their second wicket as the brilliant second-wicket stand between Karunaratne and Perera ends on 97. Karunaratne looked to sweep Miraz after playing a few dots and gets the top edge which Mustafizur takes easily at short fine leg. Karunaratne c Mustafizur Rahman b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 36 (37b 4x4 0x6) SR: 97.29

13.5, SL 104/1 - Perera has taken Bangladesh apart as he reaches his fifty in style with a drive through mid off. 50 off just 37 deliveries with 11 fours to his name. The two left handers have dictated terms after Shafiul Islam struck early on in the innings. 

11.2, SL 83/1 - Shafiul feels there was an inside edge and he has got his man Perera as the ball goes through to the wicket-keeper. The uprire agrees but Perera asks for the review. Ultra-edge says there was no edge and Perera survives. Not out.

9.2, SL 68/1 - Rubel bowls it down the leg side way outside the leg stump. Mushfiqur just about gets his fingers across but the ball goes for four after hitting the tip. Five runs for Sri Lanka and Mushy has hurt himself. He looks good to go after a few moments.

8.3, 62/1 - Fifty partnership between Perera and Karunaratne. The left hander dances down the track and hits Mosaddek for four thorugh mid wicket. Fifty partnership comes in just 34 deliveries.

7.2, SL 46/1 - Perera goes down the wicket but is hit on the pad by a Miraz delivery. It looks close but umpire says not out. 

[Wicket] 2.5, SL 10/1 - Sri Lanka have lost their first wicket as Shafiul Islam strikes on his return to the Tigers' squad. Avishka Fernando slashes at a wide delivery that slightly drifted away in the air and goes to Soumya Sarkar at slips who takes the catch.  Fernando c Soumya Sarkar b Shafiul Islam 7 (13b 0x4 0x6) SR: 53.84

2.1, SL 6/0 - Shafiul's delivery hits the pad and the fielders go up in appeal. The umpire says not out but Tamim decides to review. Impact was outside the leg stump and Bangladesh lose their reveiw.

Toss

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first in what is Lasith Malinga's final ODI match. Paceman Shafiul Islam, who last played an ODI for the Tigers back in 2016 has been named in the playing eleven. 

Bangladesh also picked Rubel Hossain for this first ODI as they line up with three pacers. Sri Lanka meanwhile picked four seamers as the pitch is expected to offer seam movement in the evening.
