Sri Lanka thrash Tigers

SL 314/8 in 50 overs; Ban 223 all out in 41.4 overs

Sri Lanka registered a whopping 91-run victory against Bangladesh in the first of their three-match ODI series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.

While in chase of a mammoth 315-run target, Bangladesh never looked comfortable. Mushfiqur Rahim's 67 off 86 deliveries and Sabbir Rahman's 60 off 56 balls in the middle could only help Tigers reach 223 in 41.4 overs as they fell short by 91 runs. Lasith Malinga, who played in his last ever ODI, returned impressive figures of three for 38.

That is the last thing that the Tigers needed at the moment. A wide delivery from Kumara. The keeper fails to grab it in the first attempt. He was however quick to take his gloves off and took his time to aim and hits the timber as Mosaddek, who responded to Mushfiqur Rahim's call, was already half way down the track when Mushfiqur refused to complete the run. Mosaddek has to go after scoring 12. Bangladesh in deep trouble.

Mushfiqur Rahim plays a fuller length delivery from DM de Silva towards midwicket and takes a single to bring up his fifty off 61 deliveries. He needs to carry on if Tigers are to register a victory in the game.

Malinga gets Soumya Sarkar with yet another beautiful yorker. An inswinging yorker beats Soumya who tries to defend it with the full face of the bat. Bangladesh lose their third and are in a spot of bother.

Mohammad Mithun walks across to the off side and tries to flick a Pradeep delivery behind square leg. Misses it completely as the ball struck his pad. Mithun goes for a review after being given out by the onfield umpire. The ball pitches in line and would go and hit middle and leg. A very bad review by Mithun. Bangladesh lose their review and also are in deep trouble.

Sri Lanka posted 314 for eight against Bangladesh in their first of the three-match ODI series at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.

After electing to bat, Sri lanka got off to a brilliant start. Kusal Perera scored a magnificent 99-ball 111 at the top and the hosts looked set to score around 350 runs at one stage of the game. However, Bangladesh bowlers did a good job at the death as they restricted the Islanders to 314. Right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam took three wickets for 62 runs in his nine overs.

26.3, SL 179/2 - Mahmudullah lets off Mendis. Dropped! Soumya's short delivery gained up on Mendis slightly as he went looking for the pull shot. The ball looped high and Mahmudullah ran in from mid wicket and covered the required ground quite well but he can't hold on.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first in what is Lasith Malinga's final ODI match. Paceman Shafiul Islam, who last played an ODI for the Tigers back in 2016 has been named in the playing eleven. 

Bangladesh also picked Rubel Hossain for this first ODI as they line up with three pacers. Sri Lanka meanwhile picked four seamers as the pitch is expected to offer seam movement in the evening.
