Bangladesh win first ODI against WI by 5 wickets

Bangladesh win the first ODI against West Indies by five wickets after a disciplined performance from the bowlers and the batsmen at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led the charge with the ball, picking up three wickets while Mustafizur Rahman bagged three as well.

Tigers faced a bit of turbulence early in their chase of West Indies' score of 195 but the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim kept his temperament to see the Tigers through to victory with a 70-ball 55. Bangladesh needed 35.1 overs to clinch the win with Mahmudullah Riyad unbeaten on 14 at the other end.

Mushfiqur strikes 50

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been in brilliant touch after a little difficulty at the start of his innings. Some deliveries did gain up on him but he played a very level-headed innings as the Tigers are close to the shores of victory. Mushfiqur's 59-ball 50 was laced with five fours.

Soumya Sarkar played some lovely shots as Bangladesh go closer to victory. He hit Oshane Thomas for two fours and a six in the 29th over but falls in the the next over, edging Roston Chase to the man at slip as Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket.

Shakib falls after 50-run partnership with Mushy

Shakib picks up a run on the final delivery of the 25th overs as the fourth-wicket partnership between him and Mushfiqur reached fifty. After the fifty partnership, Shakib fell to Powelltrying to drive hard but managing to nick the ball through to the wicket-keeper as Bangladesh lost their fourth wicket.  Bangladesh need 50 more runs for victory with Soumya Sarkar at the crease.

Shakib hit consecutive boundaries off Keemo Paul in the 21st over to see Tigers cross the 100-run mark. The left-hander has a knack for starting well and he has not held back agianst the Windies bowlers so far. Mushfiqur at the other end has been quietly resilient as Bangladesh need 79 more runs for victory from 27 overs.

18.2 - Bangladesh 89/3. Liton Das b Paul 41 (57b 5x4 0x6) SR: 71.92

Tigers opener Liton Das falls to a rash shot off the bowling of Keemo Paul as he tried to play across the line to a delivery that darted in slightly. Bangladesh need a further 107 runs for victory as Shakib Al Hasan comes to the crease. The left-hander started his innings brightly, hitting Paul for a boundary on the third delivery he faced.

Bangladesh reach 68 for 2 after 15 overs

Opener Liton Das has faced upto the West Indies bowlers after the loss of Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes. Young Windies pacer Oshane Thomas caused a lot of trouble with his pace -- bowling at 148 km/h at times – but Liton has so far been able to thwart the youngster from grabbing more wickets. He defended well but did not get bogged down in his 48-ball 31 run knock so far even as Oshane managed to go past the edge of his bat a couple of times.

Bangladesh lose both the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes in quick succession. Tamim Iqbal fell to a soft dismissal in the last delivery of the eighth over with Roston Chase picking up the wicket and the 21-year-old paceman Oshane Thomas castled Imrul with a beautiful delivery. 

Liton called back as Roach bowls no-ball

It was just a matter of inches as Liton survives a close call and he responded by hitting two brilliant sweep shots off Chase the next over.

Liton Das was called back by the umpire after he was holed out at deep square leg off the bowling of Kemar Roach. The Windies were celebrating as Liton started his walk. He was made to wait as the umpire checked out if the bowler had over stepped. The batsman survives a close call!

Bangladesh have sent in Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal to open the innings in their chase of West Indies  score of 195. Tamim got off the mark in the first delivery. Kemar Roach has been getting a bit of extra bounce from the surface early on as he hit Liton on the gloves in the first over. Roston Chase bowled the second over and got the edge of Tamim's bat but the ball did not carry to the man at slip.

An excellent last over from Mustafizur Rahman saw him bag two more wickets as Bangladesh restricted the Windies to 195 runs. He conceeded just two runs in the 50th over while bagging the wickets of Keemo Paul and Devendra Bishoo.

A few big hits from Keemo Paul in the death overs took West Indies close to 200 against Bangladesh in the first ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The right-hander's innings was a rarity today as he managed to dominate the Bangladesh bowlers in the slog overs.

The Windies will be happy with their last 10 overs of the innings as they picked up 66 runs in the final 10 overs. Mustafizur ended up with three wickets while skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bagged theree as well. Rubel Hossain ended up on the expensive side, giving away 29 runs in his last 2 overs to concede 61 runs in his 10 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman removes the dangerous Roston Chase as Windies lose their seventh wicket. The right-hander was looking ominous with his power hitting as he hit Rubel Hossain for 15 in the previous over. Chase tried to hit Fizz out of the park but only managed to sky one as Miraz took the catch at backward point.

Roston Chase and Keemo Paul carried the West Indies score past 150 with five more overs remaining in the West Indies innings. The duo starred in a 31-run partnership so far and Windies will be hoping that they can take the score close to 200. 

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza ended his spell with three wickets in 10 overs. Shakib also ended his spell, conceeding 36 runs and grabbing a wicket.

Marlon Samuels tried to break the shackles that have been created by the Bangladesh bowlers. He hit Rubel Hossain straight down to long off but fielder Liton Das kept his composure to take a fine catch at the boundary. Bangladesh are into the Windies tail as Mashrafe and Rubel removed two more wickets in the last 10 overs where Windies added 33 runs more.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bags his third wicket of the match as West Indies are in trouble losing their fifth wicket. The Bangladesh skipper bagged the wicket of his Windies counterpart Rovman Powell as the right-hander tried to break the shackles with an explosive drive. He ended up slicing it to Liton Das at mid-off.

Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz continues his hold over West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer, getting his wicket for the fifth time in five innings of West Indies' tour of Bangladesh. Unlike in the two Tests, this time Hetmyer only has himself to blame as he tried to play a square cut against a full ball and had his timbers rattled. West Indies in big trouble now as one of their best batsmen is back in the hut.

After two dropped catches in the last five overs, it was Tamim Iqbal who ran in from the long-off boundary to take a magnificent diving catch as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's removes Bravo. The Windies batsman miscued the slower delivery.

Dropped! - (15.2 overs, West Indies 54/1) Ariful Haque, on the field in place of Shakib Al Hasan, drops a simple chance at point off Darren Bravo, who slashed at a Mustafizur Rahman delivery. Bravo was on 13 off 27 balls.

After the spinners srtrangled the West Indies in the first 10 overs, Mustafizur Rahman and skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza have kept things quiet. Shai Hope broke the shackles in the 14th over, taking 10 runs off Mustafizur, but Mashrafe ensured in the next over that things remained calm.

Bangladesh have kept West Indies on a tight leash as the tourists have just been able to get 31 runs in the first Powerplay. The spin strategy has continued from the Tests, as Bangladess started with spin from both ends. 

Shakib makes the first breakthrough

Shakib Al Hasan continues picking the first wicket for Bangladesh, like he had done in both innings of the second Test against West Indies. Tied down for quite some time, Kieran Powell tries to break the shackles with a straight hit but only manages to top edge the heave to cover. 

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan gets the wicket of opener Kieran Powell, who was looking solid before a rash shot saw him get holed out to mid-off.

Shakib and Miraz have kept the West Indies in a tight leash early on after skipper Mashrafe opted for the spin duo to start proceedings. The Windies were happy with the start they have got as both Hope and Kieran Powell reached double digits but Shakib changed the momentum with the first wicket of the match.

West Indies have won the toss and elected to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. 

Captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will look to lead his side to another series victory while West Indies skipper Rovman Powell has payback in his mind.

Bangladesh will be looking to continue their fine run in their favoured fifty-over format this year when they take on West Indies in the first of the three-match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. The day-night affair is set to start from 1:00 pm local time.

It's a bright and sunny day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The Bangladesh players are out in the field having a kickabout with a football. It's 12:15 pm and the toss will take place shortly.

The Tigers are buoyed by the return of opener Tamim Iqbal and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and it will be a special occasion for skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, playing his 200th match. Windies -- who have not won an ODI series in the last four years, will look to get back to winning ways as they welcome back Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo for the ODIs.

Windies are aware that they are coming across a side who overhauled them in their own den earlier this year and gained further momentum by outclassing them in the Test series 2-0.

Their skipper Rovman Powell said that they were not going to focus on the Test defeats, reminding those present that ODIs were a totally different format. Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who will be playing his 200th match said that he would back the idea of playing three pacers against a Windies side who possesses the 'muscle power' to cause havoc in the shorter version of the game even as Bangladesh spinners were the one that dismantled the visitors in the just concluded Test series.

He was also aware of the dew factor playing an important role today which meant that the toss could play a part in how the game pans out in a hard-to-read mysterious Mirpur pitch.

It would be an interesting battle and payback was certainly in the Windies' captain's mind when he said: Bangladesh have been very good at home. We are fully aware of it. They beat us in the Caribbean and we are looking to do the same to them here.

While Windies have a better head-to-head record, the Tigers have fared better in ODIs than their opponents this year, having won 11 of the 17 matches.
