‘Not about coping up, Super over about ‘Kopao’ option’
Khulna Titans skipper Mahmudullah Riyad was dissappointed with the outcome of the match as his side following the first Super Over in BPL history. Mahmudullah was of the opinion that his side did nothing wrong in the super over in regards to adjusting to the situation and said that it was about hitting the ball well and they did not manage to do it.
"To be honest, 11 runs in an over is not much and we should have been able to make the target. Unfortunately, it did not work out," he said.
Dawid Malan and Carlos Brathwaite were brought on to chase down the 12 required in the Super Over but they fell short by 2. Brathwaite was run out off the fourth delivery with Khulna needing 5 from 2 deliveries. Paul Stirling came in and managed 3 from the last two.
"It's not about coping up," Mahmudullah said in the press-conference after the match. "It about kopao option " the skipper said, using a trendy Bangla word to indicate that in the Super Over one has to hit big or get nothing.
"The choice was between Stirling and maybe me, I felt that he is good through the off-side and so it was him who batted after the wicket in the Super Over.
The one-over eliminator came about because Khulna were unable to defend the 19 runs needed to win the match in the final over as Ariful Haque was hit for three sixes. Riyad, visibly frustrated with the bowling during the match said that "I lost my cool. It happened. I will try to manage things better. Whether it's good or bad [losing one's temper as a captain] is not certain.
Having lost all three of their matches so far, Khulna captain was understandbly disappointed but opined that the team aim to win and lose as a team.
"It's difficult now since out of the next 7-8 matches, we will have to win atleast 5 or 6. In this bad time it's important that we don't seek each others mistake and to find our individual flaws so that we can give our input to make the team win,"Riyad said.
